Koenigsegg Unleashes Its Potential With Lauterbach

Koenigsegg Unleashes Its Potential With Lauterbach

Established in 1994, Koenigsegg is renowned for crafting luxury cars and cutting-edge vehicles, consistently leading in automotive innovation.

We explore their journey of integrating Lauterbach TRACE32, a vital component of their journey to elevate software development and requirements management processes. Additionally, we dive into their latest groundbreaking project, the world’s first 4-seater Megacar, a testament to their ongoing commitment to innovation.

Koenigsegg's unique development method

Historically, Koenigsegg‘s taken a more flexible approach to product development, customizing each model's goals to suit it as distinct purpose. Mattias Bernhold, Platform Software Manager at Koenigsegg says their requirements have typically emerged from functional goals, with architectural decisions evolving accordingly. Mattias stresses the significance of a structured process for handling requirement changes. “We‘re recognizing more and more the importance of a structured process for managing changes to requirements. We've grown quite rapidly, so we're working to improve everything related to the development process”

Testing holds a central role in Koenigsegg's development process. Their comprehensive testing regimen extends from testing in controlled setting to real-world testing using prototype vehicles. This early testing approach helps find and fix problems early on, ensuring a high-quality product.

Koenigsegg follows a dynamic approach to product development by tailoring each model's objectives to its unique purpose. For instance, the Regera was engineered to achieve the maximum possible speed up to 400 km/h, significantly influencing the drivetrain design. This insight were later integrated into the development of their next car model, the Jesko, which prioritized track performance and speed.

”We’re recognizing more and more the importance of a structured process for managing changes to requirements”

How Koenigsegg supercharged their team with Lauterbach TRACE32

Recognizing the importance of a talented team in driving innovation, Koenigsegg collaborated with Nohau Academy, who offers training in "Lauterbach Trace Functions" and "Lauterbach Debugging." These courses make use of Lauterbach TRACE32, a development tool designed for complex applications and can with the Power Trace module present a detailed picture of the behaviour of your application. This tool was adapted for a project Koenigsegg was undertaking 2021/2022, strategically enhancing their team's capabilities and software development processes.

Koenigsegg's flexibility in keeping up with market trends and adopting new technologies highlights their leadership in the industry. They do this while staying compliant with safety and regulatory requirements. The "Lauterbach course," skillfully conducted by Nohau Academy with course leader Kristoffer Martinsson -Support and Technical Manager at Nohau, received great reviews.

”The teacher is highly skilled and possesses a deep understanding”

”This Lauterbach training not only improved how we used the tools but also enhanced our requirements management process.” Mattias says. Another participant from Koenigsegg shared their thoughts, saying, "The teacher is highly skilled and possesses a deep understanding. I learned greatly from the hands-on exercises and personally I would have like more of them.

Due to their positive experience with the Lauterbach tool, Koenigsegg is now exploring additional areas where it can be effectively applied
